ABOUT BRIDGET RILEY

British artist who made her name as a creator of Op (optical illusion) art. She produced her first stripe paintings in 1967.

She first attended Goldsmiths College from 1949 to 1952 and later The Royal College of Art from 1952 to 1955.

As recognition for her work, she was awarded honorary degrees from Oxford and Cambridge, and she was given the Praemium Imperiale by the Japan Art Association.

Her father served in the armed forces during World War II, while she was evacuated.

She cited Jackson Pollock as a major influence on her early work.
