ABOUT BOBBY SMITH

Former NHL center whose career spanned from 1978 to 1993. He was selected first overall in the 1978 NHL Draft by the Minnesota North Stars.

He won the NHL's Calder trophy for the league's top rookie in the 1978-79 season.

He was the general manager of the Phoenix Coyotes from 1996 to 2000.

His son Daniel also plays hockey.

He edged out the great Wayne Gretzky for the 1977-78 OHL scoring title.
