ABOUT BENJAMIN PAUL BLOOD

New York-born poet and philosopher known for Bride of the Iconoclast, The Colonnades, and Justice, among other works. His last literary work, Pluriverse, was published after his death.

He was the son of a New York landowner and was, as a young man, viewed by many as intelligent but scatterbrained.

He was treated with nitrous oxide during dental surgery, and he continued experimenting with the drug afterwards. He even penned "The Anesthetic Revelation and the Gist of Philosophy," a pamphlet lauding nitrous oxide's effects.

He married Mary Sayles and had a daughter. After Sayles' death, he wed Harriet Lefferts and had another child.

His work influenced William James ' philosophical writings.
