ABOUT BELA KAROLYI
Gymnastics coach who guided many female athletes to Olympic gold medals, including Nadia Comaneci and Svetlana Boginskaya . The 2020 documentary Athlete A revolved around him.
He developed a gymnastics training program in which Nadia Comaneci was one of his first pupils.
He and his wife, Marta Eross, both became gymnastics coaches. In 2000, he was inducted into the US Gymnastics Hall of Fame.
He was born in Kolozsvar (now Cluj-Napoca), Romania, in 1942.
He trained Mary Lou Retton , an Olympic gold medalist.
