August Leimbach
ABOUT AUGUST LEIMBACH
German-American architectural sculptor most known for his work with Arlene B. Nichols Moss and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
He immigrated to the United States in 1910, choosing to settle in St. Louis.
His creation of the 12 Madonna of the Trail monuments in 1927 was meant as a tribute to the spirit of pioneer women throughout the history of the United States; they were strategically located from Maryland to California along the National Old Trails Road.
He married Frieda and had two children. They were buried next to each other in Michelstadt, Germany.
He and Antoni Tapies were both internationally renowned sculptors whose works impacted the 20th century.
