Attia Sharara
ABOUT ATTIA SHARARA
Composer, violinist, conductor, and member of Egypt's second generation of classical composers. He was noted for his monodic music, which he began composing around 1950.
He studied music at the Fuad I Institute for Traditional Music. He played with the orchestras that served as accompaniment for Mohamed Abdel-Wahab and Umm Kulthum .
He composed one operetta, "The Crystal Ball," during his career.
His son Hassan Sharara was also a violinist and conductor.
He became prominent in Egypt around the same time as actor Omar Sharif .
