ABOUT ARTHUR BOYD

Remembered for both his impressionistic landscapes and his expressionistic figure paintings, this acclaimed twentieth-century artist created such famous works as The Expulsion, Bathers Pulpit Rock, and the Nebuchadnezzar and Bride series.

He dropped out of traditional school at the age of fourteen and trained through the night program at the National Gallery of Victoria's Art School.

He was a member of two prominent Australian artistic groups: the Antipodeans and the Angry Penguins.

Born and raised in Victoria, Australia, he was the grandson of fellow painter Arthur Merric Boyd. His mother, Doris, and father, Merric, were also artists. His marriage to fellow artist Yvonne Lennie Boyd resulted in three children: Lucy, Polly, and Jamie.

He and his brother David Boyd were both prominent Australian artists of the Twentieth Century.
