ABOUT ANTONIO OSCAR GARZA JR.
Lawyer who rose to fame for his career as the American ambassador to Mexico. He served between 2002-2009, and earned the prestigious Águila Azteca Award from the Mexican government for his service as a foreign emissary.
He earned his bachelor's degree in business administration from the University of Texas at Austin in 1980. He subsequently earned his law degree from Southern Methodist University.
He served as Texas' Secretary of State between 1995-1997. He went into private law following his retirement as ambassador to Mexico in 2009.
He divorced his first wife, Mexican billionaire María Asunción Aramburuzabala, in 2010. He later married Dr Liz Beightler.
He served as ambassador to Mexico during both of George W. Bush 's terms as president of the US.
