ABOUT ANTONIO CARBAJAL

Self-described wheelchair street photographer who was diagnosed with ALS at age 26. He's documented his own experiences with the disease as well as the struggles of others afflicted with it. His social media profiles feature the quote "I have ALS, ALS does not have me."

He supported himself with photography before the diagnosis, but had to scale back professional engagements after learning he had the disease.

His wife Laarne Pelec assists in his photography because he no longer has the ability to hold a camera or physically set up shots.

He learned he had ALS while actively caring for his mother, Catherine Scott, who also suffered from the disease and had been fighting it for 14 years.

He and his wife received significant donations after appearing on the Ellen DeGeneres show.
