He grew up around baseball and took up hockey without even knowing how to play, at the insistence of a fellow soldier in World War I.

He was known as the Ottawa Fireman.

He grew up in Ottawa, Canada.

He was called out of retirement by the New York Americans when they lost Roy Warters to injury.
