ABOUT ALDA LARA
Angolan poet known for Tempo da Chuva and other Portuguese-language poetry collections. The prestigious Alda Lara literary prize bears her name.
She studied at Lisbon University and at the University of Coimbra.
Her poem "Preludio/Mae Negra" was set to music and recorded by Portuguese singer Paulo de Carvalho.
Her husband, Orlando Albuquerque, published her collected works shortly after her death.
She was a contemporary of fellow Angolan poet Viriato Dacruz ; however, Dacruz fought for Angolan independence from Portugal, while Lara embraced Portuguese language and culture in her writing.
